Jason + Jennifer Jackal (Golden)
Loyal for life, they maintain close-knit families

You can find golden jackals anywhere from Southeastern Europe to Northern Africa and as far East as Asia. They’re the most far-ranging species of jackal in the world. They prefer dry, open country. Jackals mate for life. Together, they defend territory, share food, and raise their children. Sometimes their children stay with them even after they’re all grown up to help take care of the next litter. Jackals are scavengers, so instead of always hunting for their own food, they often eat the remains of others’ meals—usually they just follow lions around, waiting for leftovers. Sometimes they even linger around human towns and cities, living on the food people throw away. Still, if there’s nothing to scavenge, jackals aren’t above eating insects and fruit. Jackals use a number of different howls to communicate with each other. Their coats can be anywhere from dirty yellow to reddish in color. Jackals live in dens.
